Princess Tuvstarr and the Elk

Princess Tuvstarr and the Elk

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful young princess named Tuvstarr, whose golden hair shone like the sun, and whose eyes sparkled like stars. She lived in a grand castle on the edge of a vast forest, but her heart yearned to explore the mysteries of the wild woods beyond the castle walls.

One day, an enormous, majestic elk wandered to the castle gates. The elk was not an ordinary creature—it was a wise and ancient being, said to know the secrets of the forest. Seeing Tuvstarr's longing eyes, the elk said, "Princess, if you wish to see the heart of the forest, I will take you there. But remember: the deeper we go, the more of yourself you may leave behind."

Curious and brave, Tuvstarr climbed onto the elk’s broad back, and they ventured into the forest. At first, they passed fields of wildflowers, sparkling streams, and singing birds. Tuvstarr was delighted, her laughter echoing through the woods.

As they traveled deeper, the forest grew darker and wilder. The trees whispered ancient songs, and strange creatures peeked out from the shadows. Tuvstarr’s jeweled crown glittered in the dim light, catching the eye of mischievous forest sprites.

“Take care, Princess,” warned the elk. “The forest spirits are drawn to shiny things.” But Tuvstarr, in her excitement, removed her crown to dip her hands in a crystal-clear spring. When she turned back, the crown was gone, stolen by unseen hands.

“Don’t worry,” said the elk. “Keep going, but hold on to what is truly precious.”

They journeyed deeper still, where the air grew thick with magic. Tuvstarr’s golden necklace sparkled brightly, and again, the forest spirits grew curious. Despite the elk’s warnings, Tuvstarr removed her necklace to hang it on a low branch, forgetting it as she chased after a shimmering butterfly. When she returned, the necklace had vanished into the forest.

The elk sighed. “You are losing pieces of yourself, Princess. Be careful.”

Finally, they reached the heart of the forest—a vast, dark, and silent lake surrounded by towering trees. The lake’s surface was so still it mirrored the sky, and Tuvstarr, captivated by its beauty, knelt by the water’s edge. As she gazed into the lake, her reflection seemed to hold her gaze. Her eyes filled with wonder as the forest spirits whispered, “Give us your last treasure, the one you guard most dearly.”

Tuvstarr touched the small golden locket around her neck, the only thing she had left from her family. Ignoring the elk’s warning, she opened the locket and leaned over the lake to see her reflection better. In that moment, the locket slipped from her fingers and sank silently into the depths.

The elk lowered his head sadly. “You’ve given everything to the forest, Princess. You belong to it now.”

Tuvstarr’s golden hair dimmed, her sparkling eyes softened, and she became a part of the forest. To this day, people say Princess Tuvstarr’s spirit lives on in the heart of the woods. She sits by the dark lake, staring into its depths, forever searching for the treasures she lost.
